With its private, mountain location and gracious hospitality its no wonder that the Gold Mountain Manor in Big Bear, Calif., has been the choice of many a celebrity. In fact, Clark Gable and his wife, Carole Lombard, chose the romantic bed and breakfast for their honeymoon spot.
History and hospitality are what sets bed and breakfast inns apart from the average cookie-cutter hotel or motel. That history often includes the many influential and important guests that have stayed at the inn. After all, many of us would be understandably in awe to have an innkeeper explain that presidents and award-winning writers stayed in the same rooms as we do today.

As he sits atop a soft Oriental rug at the Burnt Toast Inn, Bojangles is much like any other innkeeper. Attentive, polite and entertaining, he welcomes his guests with enthusiasm. Bo is, of course, a 90-pound mix of mastiff and Rhodesian ridgeback. Bo leaves reservations, accounting and other matters to owner Sarah Okumyama, and just enjoys relaxing around the inn. He seems to know when to approach guests and when to allow them privacy, just like any good innkeeper.

Pod hotels are not a new phenomenon. They have been around for many years, but most travelers have never heard of them. They had their beginnings in Japan as “capsule hotels”, that were, and are still being used mainly by businessmen on stopovers. However, pod hotels are becoming more and more popular with vacation travelers as well, because they are convenient and cost less than regular hotels.
The pod hotel concept is in its infancy in the U.S. and Europe, but it is growing by leaps and bounds as more and more travelers demand this unique service. A number of entrepreneurs are building small, pod-like hotel rooms that are usually rented by the hour, or number of hours.
Most pod hotel rooms are small, but comfortable and convenient, and they can have all the amenities of a regular hotel room at a fraction of the cost. They can be a good choice for budget-conscious travelers and vacationers.

The most obviously thing about Oktoberfest is it is in October, right? Umm, not really. The classic Munich festival actually starts in September and only ventures into the first few days of October. Do not show up in October expecting to visit the big tents.
The festival in 2008 will be held starting the third week of September. The specific dates are September 20th till the 5th day of October. It is also vital that you realize you need tickets to get in. No tickets, no beer, pretzels or…beer!
At the start of the festival, the first keg will be tapped to the sound of a twelve gun salute. Who gets the honor of opening up the first Oktoberfest keg? Why, the mayor, of course! As soon as that first keg is tapped, the drinking begins. Just make sure not to end up a Bierleichen.

Where is the bed and breakfast located?
Your inn might list its location as Los Angeles, but that’s a big location. Is it right-next-to-the-airport Los Angeles or near the coast? Depending on what you want to do and see, it is important to know exactly where your bed and breakfast is located. Perhaps you want to stay fairly close to the city but still leave the crowds and traffic behind. Maybe a country inn or perhaps a small historic town is what you want. If it’s important to you, be sure to ask if there are restaurants and shops or other attractions within walking distance. Here’s an example of two inns only about an hour from each other that offer wonderful but very different experiences.
