For those who have visited the White House or Hearst Castle and thought them to be grand mansions, think again. The Biltmore Estate, built in the 19th century by George Vanderbilt II, is three times larger than the President’s Pennsylvania Avenue digs. This stunning architectural treasure is a National Historic Landmark and one of the country’s top tourist attractions.

There are a myriad of activities available at the Biltmore Estate. Travelers can tour the mansion, which, in addition to rooms filled with priceless furnishings and artwork, includes 65 fireplaces, an indoor pool and a bowling alley. There is a winery offering tours and tastings. The grounds include River Bend Farm, which recreates a 19th-century farm.

For the outdoor enthusiast, one can take a float trip along the French Broad River, which runs through the property. There are biking and hiking trails, and fly-fishing, horseback riding and carriage rides all are available.

Although you can book a room at the Biltmore, the Asheville area boasts a variety of excellent bed & breakfasts, most of which are a better value than a night at the Biltmore Estate.

Book a stay at the Asheville Seasons Bed & Breakfast and you will be pampered like a Vanderbilt without breaking the bank. This charming Asheville inn is located in the Historic District of Montford, just a short walk from downtown. The Biltmore Estate is less than four miles away and you will be just 10 minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway.

This historic Asheville inn offers five charming guest rooms, each decorated in its own romantic style. Each has a private bath stocked with fluffy robes, soft towels and plenty of bath amenities. Most of the guest rooms include a working fireplace. The innkeepers also pamper their guests with a full, gourmet breakfast each morning.

The innkeepers at the Asheville Seasons Bed & Breakfast offer a special Biltmore Estate add-on package, which includes tickets to the mansion and winery. In addition, if you plan to see more than just the Biltmore Estate, the innkeepers are full of information about area shops, restaurants and attractions.
