Attractions in Egypt

by Robert M Freeman

Egypt, recognised as Misr in Arabic, is situated in the north-east of Africa. The capital of Egypt is Cairo, and it is most renowned for being the place where the Pyramids are to be found. Besides the Pyramids, Egypt has numerous wonders to present the huge numbers of tourists, visiting the country every year, making it a very popular tripping spot.

The country has numerous famed landmarks. Besides the Pyramids, it also has the Red Sea and the magnificent scuba diving opportunities. Another sensation is the Nile River, very old temples and ruins, mummies, museums, shopping and scrumptious food.

To start with, Egypt offers history. From the Pyramids, which serve as tombs of the Pharaohs to the temple complexes at Saqqara and Dashur, the country has a great deal to offer. You can spend an entire trip focusing on nothing but the rich history of the country. If you are in Cairo, you can spend one entire day at the Egyptian Museum, which is big enough to take a full day for exploring everything in detail. From ancient artefacts to mummies, the museum appears to be the best place to see all the history you want.

You can also disburse a day at the Pyramids and the Sphinx, which are sited right at the side of each other. Taking a tour into the Pyramids is also likely and you can view the tombs where the mummies were found.

If you are not in Cairo, you can head out to the temples in Luxor, and the West Bank across from the Nile. The Valley of the Kings is another distinguished tourist mark, as is Alexandria with many chronological sites. The Temples of Abu Simbel is the one last historical position you must trip when in Egypt.

Besides historical places, the country also has wonderful dive locations. These are scattered around the Red Sea resorts at the Sinai Peninsula, which include Dahab, Hurghada and Sharm el Sheikh. You can also pay visit to Mount Sinai, or Saint Catherine’s Monastery.

Egypt is also a great place to go shopping. You can buy antiques, carpets, cotton items, jeweller, chess games, leather products, water pipes, and spices here. There are many places you can go shopping, but the Old Bazaar in Cairo is one of the best places to go for bargain hunters.

You can also enjoy water pipe with flavoured tobacco at most restaurants. Along with this you can enjoy some local Arab influenced food and take in the street life outside the caf. Alcohol is banned for locals, since this is a Muslim country, but visitors can buy it easily at shops. However, make sure you don’t drink in public places and also observe respect for the locals in the way you dress.

Egypt is a huge tripping mark, and you can get pleasure from both the history and the lifestyle in this place while taking in some splendid landscape and amazing dive spots.
