Bring It On Cyprus Holidays

by Alex Babic

Cyprus Holidays offer the holidaymaker the opportunity to experience modern beach resorts with bustling and vibrant towns steeped in ancient history. Cyprus offers you the chance to explore a fascinating country which combines a rich historical past in a modern and relaxing environment. From the modern bustling resorts of Paphos and Limassol, to the relaxing beach resort of Protaras and to Ayia Napa, the nightlife capital, this island has something for all tastes. Cyprus holidays offer a huge range of quality hotel and apartments to choose from, coupled with a glorious sunny year round climate.

You can discover a wide range of beautiful beaches from the golden beaches of Coral Bay, Protaras and Ayia Napa, to the quieter more laid back resorts of Polis and Latchi on the western peninsula. Cyprus offers a wide variety of watersports with impressive waterparks, water ski-ing, windsurfing, paragliding, diving and sailing all available from most beach resorts.

Cyprus is dominated by two mountain ranges, the Troodos Mountains and the smaller Kyrenia mountain range and the central plain they encompass, the Mesaoria. The highest point on Cyprus is Mount Olympus. Your holiday would not be complete without a visit to the Troodos mountains, covered in thick pine forest with picturesque villages and monasteries dotted along the scenic drive up to the summit. Cyprus also offers the holidaymaker some fascinating historical sites including the monasteries of Chrysoroyiatissa, Ayios Neophytos and Kykkos as well as the traditional inland mountain village of Yeroskipou. Paphos also has some interesting relics including The Tomb of the Kings dating back over 300 BC, the Pillar of St. Paul, and the Paphos mosaics. The 15th century Kolossi castle and the ancient city of Kourion with its magnificent theatre is also fascinating and one the most important archaeological sites in Cyprus.

Cyprus also offers a delicious range of local cuisine. The delicious local Halloumi cheese is commonly served either fresh or grilled, as an appetiser. Seafood dishes include Kalamari (squid), red mullet and sea bass. Other delicacies include Souvlaki (pork and chicken cooked over charcoal), charcoal grilled lamb, Lountza (smoked pork meat) and Sheftalia (wrapped minced meat). For desert you must try the local sweet pastries including Baklava and Lokum (Turkish delight)

Holidays in Cyprus are renowned for their high standards of service, and you will find a wide range of accommodation catering for all your needs. Families will be drawn to the larger hotels offering kids clubs and plenty of children’s facilities or the self catering apartments primarily in Protaras and Paphos. The younger holidaymakers will be heading towards Ayia Napa for its famous nightlife. Discerning couples are well catered for hotels in Paphos and Limassol with its excellent range of 4 and 5 star luxury hotels. Holidays in Cyprus are also very popular for Weddings and honeymoons, which after all is the Aphrodite’s island of love offering romantic venues for tying the knot or for celebrating a honeymoon. Special interest holidays are also well catered for including golf, dance, bowls and bridge holidays.
