Summer Vacation Is Family Time

by Adriana Noton

Many movies have romanticized the long, careless yearly summer vacation. Many families enjoy this time as a period where they can get closer to each other and do things together as a family. Some families have long established traditions for these holidays. Others prefer to use the holidays as an opportunity to meet new people, see new places and experience different cultures and activities. Getting a Blue Mountain rental is perfect for this type of holiday.

When planning holiday activities, it is imperative to start off by preparing a detailed budget. It is an unfortunate fact that many people rue their lack of financial discipline during the holidays. With a proper budget, it is possible to decide upon the various options that can be considered. In this way it is possible to save time and to limit the expectations of all family members to a realistic level.

The humble herder’s chalets have come a long way since they used to be used in Switzerland. The beautiful log huts with overhanging, sloping roofs used to just provide shelter for the herder until he moved his cattle elsewhere. Now everyone, all over the world, can enjoy spending time in a chalet. There are many to be found around the globe, which are used for many visitors.

The opportunity to spend time in a Blue Mountain chalet is a wonderful one. Many of the standard features that can be found in chalets around the world include balconies, open fireplaces and stunning views. Many of the rooms have cot space, so there is no excuse for not taking a young family on a tremendous chalet holiday!

A Brief Look At Snowboarding

by Adriana Noton

Visitors to the Winter Olympics in Nagano Japan in 1998 were witnesses to the debut of snowboarding as an Olympic sport, it having been approved as such in 1994 by the International Olympic Committee. It is not surprising that it reached the world’s largest sports stage. Since the mid 1960s, an ever increasing number of snowboarders have taken to ski slopes around the world. Its popularity as a winter sport is perhaps best understood if you consider that in the mid 1980s snowboarding was allowed on less than ten percent of the ski areas in the United States; today it is permitted on over ninety-five percent.

Not far removed from the design of a skateboard or surfboard, the snowboard is designed to dash down a snow covered slope. Unlike skiing, this sport entails using a piece of equipment that looks like a short wide ski. Snowboarders’ boots are mounted in flexible bindings that are slightly perpendicular to the board, rather than facing forward as in a pair of skis.
