Rather than staying at one of the various hotels instead why not book you and your family one of the many villas in Crete. Certainly, there are a number of advantages to be had from doing this and one is that you have more freedom to choose what to do and when to do it. Plus staying in a villa can often save you quite a considerable sum of money as well.
Many people who stay in villas find that it is like staying in a home a way from home and offers them a chance to sample the kind of life that the people who live on Crete enjoy all year round. Plus you choose the pace at which you can explore everything that this beautiful and serene Island has to offer to its visitors.
During your stay on the island, there are plenty of museums and archaeological sites that one can visit and learn everything there is to know about this island. However, although most of them are free to gain entry to there is a few which you will need to purchase tickets for.
If you are going to visit any of these museums or sites it is important to note that they are not open throughout the week. There are for example some that are only open a few hours throughout the day and are closed over the weekends and on Bank holidays. One such museum is the Historical Archives of Crete in the town of Chania. This is open from only 08.00 to 13.00 Monday through to Friday.
Along with learning about Crete’s history, there are other things that you may want to do and which are a little more exciting (especially for the kids). If you want, why not book yourself on to a Pirate Ship Tour, which offers you the chance to visit some of the islands more secluded beaches.
As you leave port along the way, the trips have stopovers where you can play games or just take some photographs of the stunning scenery that you see. The games are organized by the crews of the two ships (Barbarossa and Captain Hook) and all dress up in full pirate regalia.
If this seems like a little too much excitement for you during your stay on the Island of Crete then why not take a Dolphin Tour instead. However, these trips (which last 2 or 3 hours) only take place during the summer months but are worth the time. Along with viewing dolphins in their natural habitat during the 3-hour boat trip, you stop at the village of Panormo where you have the chance to try out some local seafood delicacies if you wish.
As you can see from above staying in Villas in Crete offers you the chance to sample much of what this beautiful island has to offer. Plus there is no need to worry about having to rush back to your hotel for lunch or dinner as you decide when you eat and where.
