For any visitor to England there are several places that you really must see. Top of the list will be London, but when you venture up to the north, the main city that you need to visit will be Newcastle. The city offers a lot to any traveller and has a host of different attractions for you to enjoy. The following is a little info on short breaks in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England.

Newcastle is a centre of cultural excellence. It has a dazzling quayside that is full of excellent bars, restaurants and hotels, along with fantastic tourist attractions such as the Gateshead Millennium Bridge and the Angel of the North statue. If you are travelling into the North of England then you need look no further than Newcastle to gain the best possible sample.

There is a lot of history to the city, which has benefited from nearly 2,000 years of historical development. As such you will be surrounded by wonderful landmark buildings and beautiful architecture. Beautiful gardens also litter the city, and there are numerous festivals held there throughout the year, as well as some top sporting events. You should consult the city’s listings if you want to find out exactly what is going on at different times of the year so you can plan your break accordingly.

Of the city’s great attractions there are a couple of great ones to mention. Make sure that you go and see the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art that has some great ever changing exhibitions. Also be sure to visit the Castle Keep which was built on the site of the original castle build by Henry the Conquerors son in the 11th century. The view when you reach the battlements it well worth the climb up.

If you are more into your shopping than you are your history then fear not as Newcastle has some of the best shopping in the north of England. You will be spoilt for choice by the traditional shopping malls along with more local boutique shops where you’ll be able to grab yourself a bargain.

Last of all, there is a great budding nightlife in the city that draws people from far and wide to sample it. With a great student population, there has grown a great number of bars and underground clubs that offer all the different sorts of music that you could possibly hope for.
