Trier is a city located on the banks of the Moselle, in the country of Germany. It is the oldest city in Germany. The belief is that an Assyrian prince, named Trebeta, founded the area before or during 16 BC. Historically, it was known by English speakers as Treves. The city is also considered the oldest seat, north of the Alps, of a Christian bishop.

The University of Trier is located here. The university was founded in the year 1473, shut down in 1796 and reopened 1970. There are also a few other universities, and several primary and secondary institutes located in this place.
Many annual events take place in this city. They range from the Trier Christmas market, a large street festival, to the German part of World Rally Championships. There is also the Roman festival, the largest that Germany has, called the Brot und Spiele. It takes place every year during the summer. Many people participate.
