Monthly Events In TNQ

by Jerry Duncan

No matter what time of year, the Tropical North Queensland region of Australia has much to do and enjoy. There are activities that can be experienced all year long, as well as numerous events and festivals that come around once a year.

MAY- If you are visiting in May you should try to plan your trip during the Port Douglas Carnival. This is an annual event that many look forward to each and every year, for the last eighteen years. The carnival runs for ten days and nights and includes a family beach day, food and wine tasting event, a parade and an outstanding concert.

JUNE- The Cairns Festival of Sport and the Cooktown Discovery Festival are two of the main events during the month of June. The Festival of Sport is just as its sounds, a competitive triathlon event for the whole family, and the Cooktown Festival, is a celebration and reenactment of the landing of Captain Cook on the banks of the Endeavour River . Both events are wonderful ways to spend an Aussie afternoon in June.

JULY- For everything from livestock shows to rides, the Cairns show has much to offer. If you are visiting in 2010 you will be one of the privileged to see the circus show that will be added this year. It is a fun filled event for all ages, and should not be missed if you are visiting during this time.

SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER- September and October are dynamic months in the Tropical North Queensland, with diverse events on the calendar that impart fun booming days as well as evenings in the domain. Make a point to visit the Amateurs Carnival, in addition to, the Cairns Festival. Both are held during the month of September, and both are very fun. In October, consider the idea of soaking up a little culture with the Opera in the Outback, a fun event that calls for courtly dress up and will offer you the most lulling sounds as you watch the sun set on the region. Also in October, make a point to check out the Palm Cove Fiesta booming with spirited colors and delectable tastes from all around the globe.
