When setting about to travel around the nation, seeking to witness all the great natural and synthetic wonderment’s that the United States has got to extend, South Dakota and Mount Rushmore are certainly at the top of the list. Though your selections are expansive and the sites to explore are very diverse, there is something extraordinary about seeing the sculpted faces of those important presidents staring down at you from the mountain. This along with the varied monuments in Washington D.C. are something that everyone should try to experience at least once throughout their lifetime.

There are a few other man made objects that everyone should visit. The arch in St. Louis is one of those places that you should visit, along with the Empire State Building in New York and the Statue of Liberty. These places are all must sees, but there are some others.

The launch pad at Cape Canaveral and a Space Shuttle launch is an amazing experience to see in person. There is just something about feeling the roar of the huge engines as it hurtles towards space. A day launch is cool, but seeing a launch that lights up the night or early morning sky is even cooler.

In that respect there are so numerous wonderful locations to explore as well as witness, only there’s something exceptional about Rushmore. Process on the carving commenced in 1927 and wasn’t finished till 1941. The approximated monetary value of the project equaled just below one million dollars and over four hundred tons of stone was abstracted to obtain the carving. Annually, according to the national park service, more than three million travelers go through the park and wonder at the accomplishment. The park is situated in the famed Black Hills of South Dakota and in that location there are numerous of outside activities for travelers to have.

There are organized events for visitors and if you sign up early enough and your application is accepted, your scout troop can participate in the flag raising ceremony in front of the monument. Many outdoor activities are available from hiking and fishing and camping in the camp ground area. It is a great learning experience and is truly a sight to behold and brings a sense of wonder and awe to children and adults of all ages. It is a piece of America and American history that should be experienced by every American.
