« Choosing The Best Villa Resort Ixtapa Traveling With The Family »
A Zihuatanejo villa rental will likely astound you. Zihuatanejo is in the Mexican state of Guerrero on the west coast. It’s tropical there, like Hawaii. The area was until the mid-70′s a peaceful fishing village with a beautiful semi-circle sand beach and the mountains rising behind it. The fishermen still come to the beach early in the morning to sell their catch, and if you ask for fish in the late evening, the restaurants likely will be sold out.
You must decide what size villa and in what area before you start: 5 star? hillside? How much staff do you want? Do you need just a maid once a day, or a cook, gardener, houseboy, laundress or guard dog? How about air conditioning, TV, orr a modern kitchen? Be sure to get all this in writing ahead of time.
The food in Zihuatanejo is fish Nirvana. All but maybe one or two restaurants buy their fish in the morning from the fishermen, and can prepare it in any way you like, or in the local favorite ways. The fish tacos will spoil your at home tacos forever, and you can walk all over the town and eat them without sitting down. Little shops or vendors are everywhere. The water is purified and safe to drink, but it might be worth it to ask about it. There is lots of food without fish, too. It’s wonderful food.
What can you do in a villa? Be amazed by the colors of Mexico as in the colors of the walls and the amazing birds. Then snooze in your hammock in the soft ocean breezes and hear the surf and those birds. Or go downtown, which is a 7 block square containing a little cobblestone plaza, and the outdoor market. It is aflame with colorful food, and is where the locals buy almost anything. Vendors will offer you local crafts and carvings where ever you go, but unlike large cities, nobody is begging or pressuring you.
Other activities include fishing, snorkeling, parasailing, beach volleyball (every night), golf, shopping. There are many tours out of the area to inland cities. One of these is Taxco, the center for Mexican silver.Taking the $. 50 bus ride from Zihuatanejo to Ixtapa is an eye-opening contrast. In the 70′s the Ixtapa area was taken over by the Mexican Tourist Development people and a brand new town for attracting tourists was built. If Zihuatanejo is a sleepy fishing village, Ixtapa is Miami Beach. It has high rise condos, upscale shops and malls, all brand new and crowded with people.
Every possible agency for villa rental can be seen online. The airport is on the promontory that separates the two towns, and transportation anywhere is always available. The taxis have posted rates and no meters so it’s not necessary to haggle with them.
Everything to be arranged for your Zihuatanejo villa can be arranged online or by phone. When you arrive, the plentiful taxis can take you to your villa. No haggling is necessary with the taxis because they have fixed rates, but you should establish the price before you get in. Be warned. Staying in a Zihuatanejo villa will make you want to stay there. There is an intense peacefulness about the place. Time seems slower, but you can always find activities. Do remember to take sandals and mosquito spray.
