« Tips for Finding Seriously Cheap Holidays Abroad EARTH DAY »
If you want to go snorkeling in Hawaii, you should try the Island of Kauai. This is the best island to snorkel in Hawaii. There is the most diverse underwater population of fish in the world to be found here. The Na Pali coast is where you will find them. You can only access this area by way of water as there is no land route that will access this reef. If you are lucky, you may even get to snorkel with some marine mammals as well as viewing the coral reefs and fish.
If you are new to snorkeling, you will be well protected in this area. If you can swim with confidence, you will have no problem learning to snorkel as this is the only skill you will need. If you do not feel comfortable, you can wear a flotation device that will ensure your safety. Even if you are not fit or if you could stand to lose a few pounds, you can still snorkel safely. If you have preexisting medical conditions, it is always best to consult a physician before taking on any new physical activity. By keeping in mind your limitations, you will have a great time snorkeling.
The only equipment needed when snorkeling in Kauai is a swimsuit, snorkel, mask, and fins. The waters are very warm, so you should not need a wetsuit. Make sure that your equipment fits comfortably and snugly. Also, sun protection is a must. When the sun reflects off the water, the rays can be more intense than even direct sunlight. Be sure to wear plenty of waterproof sunscreen and have a shirt ready to put on as soon as you exit the water.
You will need to follow the rules of snorkeling while you are in the water. These rules are as follows: make sure you know where the tides and ocean circumstances are before you jump in; never get in the water alone, you should always practice the buddy system when in the water; if you have never snorkeled before, make sure you go with an experienced person; keep an eye on your location so you do not drift too far out to sea.
The best type of water to view marine life is clear and calm. If the water is choppy and turbulent, avoid snorkeling in that area. It will be challenging for even the most experienced swimmer to stay put in one area under those conditions. If you have to spend all your time trying to keep from drifting or traveling with the currents, you won’t be able to enjoy the vibrant beauty below. Often the water is the calmest in the morning during low tide.
If you want to view the most brilliant areas when snorkeling, you should always pick spots by the reefs. There will not be the same display of color when you are in a beach setting. If you go to areas that have natural shields, you will have the water type that is best for snorkeling. Be careful of the sharp edges of the reef that can cause serious cuts. Enter into caves with caution.
Make sure you are confident when you go snorkeling, any lack of confidence can create harm. If you need to, go with someone who has been snorkeling before for advice. They will be able to lead you in the right direction and can be helpful if problems arise. You will be amazed at the amount of adventures you can have when snorkeling the reefs of Kauai.
