Finally, there’s the Big Island. The rich deep sea fishing grounds are close in so you won’t need to go more than four miles off the coast before encountering 500-lb. sailfish and yellowfin. Kailua-Kona is the home port of the Sea Wife, a 38-footer with room for eighteen people, making it the largest such boat in the state. Outside the exclusive resorts, beach rentals are reasonably priced.
