Now that the holidays are over, many of begun to think about summer time, and the family vacation that they are planning to take. If you are one of these families, you will probably be joining the search for an affordable car rental. Here are some helpful tips, to get you on your way.

1. Before you rent with a company sign up for their frequent travelers plan, as this will give you discounts and information on the promotions that are being offered. Once you receive your discount call around to other rental companies, as many of them ted to honor competitor promotions and offered discounts.

2. Look online for coupons or discounts. Sometimes you can locate them on coupon sites and other informational websites.

3. Do a search on discount travel sites. Websites, such as Expedia, Orbitz, and Travelocity, often offer the best deals available, although it would be wise to check with the actual company before booking to make sure that you are really receiving the best possible offer.

4. Be flexible. This is the key to truly getting any type of travel discounts. The more you can shift things around the better deals you can find. Keep in mind that many car rental companies actually charge you less if you take the vehicle for longer. Weekend and week long rentals tend to be the best overall deals.

5. Wait for the upgrade. If you want a luxury car but don’t want to have to pay the extra price for one than reserve a mid-size car and then when you get to the rental place ask them if they have any vehicles that you could upgrade to. Most car rental companies will then offer you the luxury car for only a few dollars more, since that will put more in their pockets for a vehicle that would otherwise be sitting.
