One of the great sites to visit in Dublin is St. Patrick’s Cathedral. If you plan on visiting St. Patrick’s Cathedral, you may want to stay at one of the great nearby Dublin hotels.

St. Patrick’s Cathedral is a popular tourist attraction. The first church was built in 1191 to honor Ireland’s Patron Saint. Today, it is a historical site that tourists flock to year after year. Anyone can go into the chapel to pray for free, although there is a charge for sightseeing. The Cathedral is open year round, with the exception of Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and the day after Christmas, which is St. Stephen’s Day.

You can take a self guided tour and visitors are welcome at all of the services. You can learn the times and days of the services by visiting the Cathedral’s website. You can also buy books and CDs in the bookshop and the proceeds from the sale of these items help with the upkeep of the Cathedral. The guidebooks explain what you will see, as well as the relevance of some of the items. St. Patrick’s Cathedral is truly a site to behold. Be sure and visit the Baptistery with its stained glass dating back to 1864.
