The amount of American history that you can experience in a single trip to Washington D.C is staggering! Besides being close to all the monuments, you have the opportunity to stay the night in the same hotel as Martin Luther King Jr. did before he gave his famous “I Have a Dream Speech,” then walk from your room to the Washington Monument the next morning!

The Downtown and Capitol Hill hotels, on the other hand, are just a short walk from the National Mall. Washington D.C. also offers a great selection of more budget-friendly hotels and motels that can keep you close to the action as well. Consider a hotel or motel on Connecticut Avenue, which will give you great access to the Nation Zoo and the National Cathedral, as well as keep you close to shopping and dining options.
Don’t forget to think carefully about parking while you decide on a hotel. Downtown hotels are more expensive, but accommodations outside the downtown area, will mean driving into the city, where you may spent quite a bit of money to park. Although a bit more expensive, consider choosing a hotel that’s close to the sites you’re most interested in, so that you can avoid the expense and stress of parking.
To save money on your trip to Washington D.C., keep an eye out for package deals and online discounts to help reduce the price of your hotel. Although in many locations you can save quite a bit of money by traveling in the off-season, D.C. doesn’t have a regular off-season, and hotel prices are the same all year. Do bear in mind, however, that as with most destinations, summer is somewhat busier.
